Turn the numbers off. Keep the record.

Some couples want the numbers. Some want them for a while and then stop. Some never want them and want the record anyway: the noticing without the arithmetic.

A product this shape has to be able to put its own numbers away without the record going with it, and without that being an exit.

What goes away

• Each partner’s weekly hearts, side by side.
• The balance, the reading of how the week fell between the two of you.
• Anything else that puts one of you next to the other with a number attached.

What stays

• Everything you added, and every thanks.
• Each moment’s own hearts, and the sentence that explains them; a weight on a moment describes the moment, not a contest.
• Your week’s progress toward the goal the two of you picked. It is one number for the pair, so it compares nobody.
• The weekly review, and the settings change log.

The line it draws

Quiet mode hides comparison, not explanation. A split invites the question “who is ahead”, and that is the question the mode exists to remove. “Why is this two hearts?” is a different question: every heart stays explainable, because unexplained arithmetic somewhere in the product is worse than arithmetic in plain view.

Either of you can turn it on, and both of you will know

It is a couple setting, so one person can change it alone without a negotiation, and every change is written to a log you both read. That pairing is deliberate: a shared setting one person can change invisibly is a different and much worse object.

It is applied by the server rather than by the app, so it cannot be undone by a screen that forgot to check.

It is not solo mode, and it is not a downgrade

Solo mode is one person keeping the record for two, where the week’s totals are a simple count. Quiet mode is a pair putting the comparison away and able to take it back out whenever they like.

It is part of the product, not a feature to sell.
